Neue Alben: Zola Jesus, Caribou & Erlend Øye
Zola Jesus – Taiga
Die Taiga, der weite Wald im Norden, tief, dunkel und geheimnisvoll. Hier fühlt sich Nika Roza Danilova zuhause, hier möchte sie leben. Das dritte Album, das sie unter ihrem Pseudonym Zola Jesus veröffentlicht, beschäftigt sich mit diesem Gehölz fernab der Zivilisation. Das gleichnamige Album braucht dementsprechend viel Raum, den es sich durch breite Synthesizerflächen schafft, und natürlich durch die für Operngesang ausgebildete Stimme Danilovas. Trotz seiner gefühlten Größe ist dieses Zola Jesus-Album sehr viel klarer als die Vorgänger. Es scheint, als hätte die 25jährige ihren Sound endgültig für sich ausgependelt.
Erlend Øye – Legao
Vor ein paar Monaten gab Sänger Erlend Øye überraschend das Ende seiner Band The Whitest Boy Alive bekannt. Hauptgrund: Die viel zitierten musikalische Differenzen:
„I wasn’t really able to make any more songs on top of the same groove concept. And the other guys in the band were not interested in trying other directions musically. Then i tried to do a solo record with this band from Iceland and it was incredibly easy.“
Mit der isländische Roots-Reggae-Band Hjalmar spielte Øye sein zweites Solo-Album ein. Eine Mischung aus Reggae, Soul und R’n’B macht Legao zu einer entspannt groovenden Platte. Ist das jetzt mutig oder seicht? Am Ende wohl beides, aber vor allem wieder ein typisches Erlend-Øye-Album.
Caribou – Our Love
Ein Konzeptalbum zum Thema Liebe – wie platt ist das denn!? Eigentlich gar nicht, wenn Dan Snaith alias Caribou dahinter steckt. Liebe klingt auf Our Love subtiler als man denkt:
„All the most important things in my life and in everybodies lifes ist the loving relationships they have. Whether that’s with your partner or I have a young daughter or with music. I want the music to kind of convey some sort of feeling of love. I Don’t want it to be work, i don’t want it to be utilitarian in a sense that it’s like: „Oh, I’ve got to pay the rent.“ It should be some kind of a thing that’s meaningful and those are the things that are meaningful to me.“
Die neuen Songs sind repetitiver und minimalistischer. Zudem bedient er sich bei aktuellen R’n’B Produktionen. Am Ende fragt man sich: wo sind die Hits? Bis man merkt, dass man eigentlich alle Tracks auf dem Album nicht mehr aus dem Kopf bekommt. Wie gesagt, die Liebe von Caribou ist vor allem eines – ziemlich subtil.
